Patrick Mahomes has epic tweet about Chad Henne saving Chiefs season
Patrick Mahomes’ tweet about Chad Henne saving the Kansas City Chiefs was perfect.
When superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes was forced to exit the Kansas City Chiefs‘ Divisional Round playoff game on Sunday, the favorites to win the AFC were suddenly on upset alert.
The Cleveland Browns had pulled within nine points, and early in the fourth quarter, a Kareem Hunt touchdown pulled them within five. The Chiefs were clinging to a narrow 22-17 lead, but their MVP had already been ruled out for the game due to concussion protocol after a scary hit in the third quarter. His replacement, Chad Henne, had quickly thrown an interception. It was all shaping up for a Browns Cinderella story.
And yet, Henne played the role of midnight and helped the Chiefs survive, scrambling for a big 13-yard gain on a 3rd-and-14 late in the game that put Kansas City just a couple feet away from a first down that would seal the win. Andy Reid’s monumental call to throw to Tyreek Hill on 4th-and-1 got the Chiefs five yards and the victory, helping them advance to another AFC Championship Game.
Despite being out due to concussion protocol, Mahomes was still feeling well enough to fire off an incredible tweet praising Henne for stepping up when the Chiefs needed him most:
Patrick Mahomes paid tribute to Chad Henne (and Kevin Garnett) perfectly
Kevin Garnett’s “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!” GIF, with the hashtag #HenneThingIsPossible, is just flawless tweeting. Mahomes is absolutely right too: Without Henne’s big-time final drive to move the chains, Baker Mayfield and the Browns might have gotten a chance to steal this one with a game-winning drive of their own.
Instead, the Chiefs were able to drain the clock and secure the victory despite missing their best player for most of the second half. No one knows what Mahomes’ status will be for next weekend’s game, but KC’s pursuit of another Super Bowl remains alive thanks to Henne, and it was awesome to see Mahomes acknowledge the way this 11-year veteran stepped up on such a huge stage.
