5. Braylon Edwards – Michigan Wolverines

It’s been so long since Michigan lived up to expectations, it’s hard to remember just how good some of the offensive weapons were that went through those Ann Arbor halls. Braylon Edwards is the best of the century to wear maize and blue. He played all four seasons at Michigan, putting up over a thousand yards receiving in three of them. His 39 touchdowns put him 17th in the history of college football.

Edwards was remarkably consistent. He broke the school record for 100-yard receiving games (17), put up huge numbers in huge games and he was the catalyst for the last great run in Michigan football. Remember that epic Rose Bowl game between Michigan and Texas? Everyone raves about Vince Young’s performance and rightfully so, but Edwards ended that game with 10 catches, 109 yards and three touchdowns. Every touchdown either tied the game or gave Michigan the lead.

He won the Biletnikoff Award, was named an All-American and won the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year in his senior season. Most importantly to Michigan fans, Edwards had more than 100 yards against Ohio State in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Again, when the Wolverines needed someone to make a big play, Edwards was the guy to make it.
