Former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith is sick of seeing Eric Bieniemy getting passed over for head coaching jobs.

Here we are heading into championship weekend in the NFL and all but one of the openings for head coach has been filled. Indeed, only the Houston Texans are yet to make a splash and bring in a new leader. Once again, several teams have passed on Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

While he’s still in the running for the Texans gig, the fact that the Eagles, Chargers, Lions and others didn’t make a move to land him is stunning. If you ask Washington Football Team signal-caller Alex Smith, he’s tired of seeing Bieniemy get passed over.

Smith is of course quite familiar with Bieniemy, as the two were on the Chiefs together from 2013-17. Bieniemy served as running backs coach during that time, but has since been promoted to OC. Everyone has seen just how explosive the Kansas City offense has been with Bieniemy calling plays for Patrick Mahomes.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has sung Bieniemy’s praises for years now and recently said he understands it’s only a matter of time before he’ll have to look for his OC’s replacement. Yet, unless Houston hires him, it’s looking like Bieniemy will go another year without getting a head coaching gig that he clearly covets.

He’s had plenty of interviews, yet something ends up preventing him from getting the job. At the end of the day, Chiefs fans are surely excited if teams don’t hire him away, as he’ll keep doing phenomenal work at Arrowhead Stadium.

At the same time, players and fellow coaches in Kansas City are wishing the best for him. Bieniemy not being offered a head coaching job yet is insane, and Smith isn’t happy about it at all.
