Duke will look to avoid falling to .500 when they take on Louisville today.

No matter what way you slice it the Duke Blue Devils are in serious trouble. Mike Krzyzewski’s team hasn’t beaten a team with a winning record yet this season, putting the Blue Devils in serious jeopardy of missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995.

Duke’s struggles continued on Tuesday night when they lost by six at Pittsburgh to fall to 5-4 on the season. Jalen Johnson’s full return from injury wasn’t enough for the Blue Devils, who saw Justin Champagnie pour in 31 points and grab 14 rebounds to help the Panthers pick up the victory.

Those kinds of performances have plagued Duke all season long and the Blue Devils simply don’t have the kinds of wins necessary to justify an at-large bid from the selection committee. The good news for Krzyzewski is that Duke’s schedule still has plenty of those opportunities to come, including today’s matchup against Louisville.

The Cardinals have flown a bit under the radar after a COVID pause interrupted their season in the middle of non-conference play but Louisville is off to a solid 9-3 start that includes wins over Seton Hall and Virginia Tech. This matchup does have a sense of urgency for Louisville as well since the Cardinals enter the contest on a two-game skid, including a 13-point loss to Florida State at home earlier this week.

This matchup should be tight since Louisville hasn’t been particularly dominant at any point while Duke has the talent to turn things around in an instant. The Cardinals’ offense hasn’t been particularly explosive either so a big scoring outburst from the Blue Devils could allow them to snag a much-needed win.
