Mack Wilson and Daniel Sorensen will not be fined for their hits from Sunday’s playoff game.

With a week to review the plays in question, the NFL will not be fining Cleveland Browns linebacker Mack Wilson or Kansas City Chiefs safety Daniel Sorensen for their controversial hits from their AFC Divisional round playoff game.

Sorensen’s hit came first when he leapt forward with the crown of his helmet to stop Browns wide receiver Rashard Higgins from scoring. The hit to the helmet forced Higgins to fumble the ball out of the back of the end zone. Wilson’s hit knocked Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes out of the game, but was not nearly as malicious as the hit Sorensen doled out on Higgins earlier in the day.

Did the NFL get this right or should somebody have to pay a fine?

Even though knocking out the game’s best player was unfortunate, Wilson’s hit on Mahomes was more of a football play than anything. Very few people saw anything wrong with this hit, even though it nearly cost the Chiefs the game. As for the Sorensen hit, this too impacted the game and he should have been slapped with a five-figure fine for blowing up a play with his noggin first.

Because Higgins fumbled the ball out of the back of the end zone, the Browns went from on the verge of scoring a touchdown to having to play defense from the Kansas City side of the field. That play is the worst in football and way too punitive. Sorensen should have been fined, just like that ball should have been taken back to the Kansas City 20-yard line and Cleveland kept possession.

Browns should have some beef with Sorensen not getting fined for his egregious hit on Higgins.
