A silently fuming Aaron Rodgers didn’t have a say in Matt LeFleur’s decision to kick a field goal late against the Bucs instead of going for it.

It’s 2021 and Aaron Rodgers has once again been dumped from the playoffs thanks to an NFC Championship Game loss to the Buccaneers.

He’s not exactly pleased with that result, particularly the head coach’s decision to kick a field goal with two minutes to play instead of going for a touchdown is a big part of the reason why.

“I didn’t have a decision on that one. That wasn’t my decision,” a surly Rodgers said when asked if he agreed with the decision to kick it. “I understand the decision above two minutes with all of our timeouts. But it wasn’t my decision.”

Rodgers may well have said, “I’m just here so I won’t get fined.”

If he had been free to say what he probably thought, the statement would have read a bit differently. As it is, the tone of the quarterback said enough.

Aaron Rodgers needed Matt LeFleur’s trust and didn’t get it

The criticism of LeFleur from around the league was swift and harsh. It was also well-earned.

LeFleur seemed ignorant of the fact that Tom Brady was on the other sideline just waiting for his chance to put the game away. Depending on a defensive stop was never the way to go in that moment.

Instead of Rodgers living or dying in the playoffs with the ball in his hand, the MVP candidate watched his Super Bowl hopes dwindle slowly from the sideline.

Rodgers finished the game with 346 yards and three touchdowns. He also took five sacks and threw an interception. It was a disappointing end for an outstanding season with Green Bay.
