The Buffalo BillsĀ are a team on the rise. However, they still will need severalĀ pieces to be a full-time threat in the AFC.Ā
The road to the Super Bowl came up short in the AFC Championship Game with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Sean McDermott has built the Billsā offense to be one of the leagueās best. The team also has excelled at drafting, finding immediate playmakers in each of the last of the two seasons. Thatās good, but itās certainly not enough.
Until proven otherwise, the Bills will always be chasing the shadow of Kansas City. With these moves this offseason, maybe they wonāt.
3 free agent moves the Buffalo Bills should make this offseason
The Billsā secondary is quite good. They have perhaps the best combination of safeties in Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Meanwhile, TreāDavious White is already a shutdown cornerback in the league thanks in part because of McDermottās scheme.
The rest of the pieces still need some work. Levi Wallace is an upside No.2 option, but heās shown inconsistencies over the past two seasons. Meanwhile, Taron Johnson shows bursts in the nickel, but never a balanced game overall.
The San Francisco 49ers will have to make several tough decisions this offseason and defense takes most of the control. With the league turning into three-receiver sets daily, KāWaun Williams has developed into one of the more undervalued slot corners. Heās constantly making plays in coverage and is willing to play the run.
Buffalo could be out multiple names this offseason, meaning the draft will focus on dire needs. Williams wonāt garner a huge contract, but he certainly fits McDermottās 4-2-5 scheme. For the right price, heāll add near-flawless play in a position thatās becoming essential in todayās NFL.
