Describing the stress of playing against Patrick Mahomes didn’t take many words for Melvin Gordon. He got it across with a one-line tweet.

What is it like to play the Chiefs when they’ve got Patrick Mahomes running the show?

Apparently, it’s as stressful for the players on the field as the opposing fans at home.

At least, that’s what Broncos running back Melvin Gordon says.

Playing Patrick Mahomes is stressful according to Melvin Gordon

Such a simple line from Gordon expresses so much. Mahomes is a one-man playmaking machine and the other team knows it.

Gordon doesn’t even have experience taking on Mahomes directly. He has just had to stand on the sideline and watch while his defense tried to wrangle him. Those attempts in 2020 weren’t exactly successful. The Broncos lost to the Chiefs 43-16 in their first meeting and 22-16 in the second. Keeping Mahomes to just two touchdowns in those games combined is pretty impressive.

For his part, Gordon had 68 yards and a touchdown in their October meeting, then followed it up with 131 yards in the next. Those yards didn’t accompany a win though.

The trouble for opposing offenses is knowing any production they manage is likely to be matched. Even when Mahomes isn’t scoring himself, he’s the one facilitating the offense. The nightmare is real.

Gordon shot out his tweet while watching the Chiefs battle the Bills in the AFC Championship Game. Buffalo was undoubtedly feeling the stress the running back refers to as Mahomes put up 173 yards and a touchdown in the first half.

Mahomes is coming off another outstanding regular season. He threw for 4,740 yards and 38 touchdowns while adding 308 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. The quarterback still has some work to do as he pursues another Super Bowl title.
