Alabama football: Ranking Nick Saban’s championship teams with Crimson Tide

Nick Saban has won an unprecedented six National Championships with Alabama football in 12 years but how do those teams rank against one another.

Not many people would argue with the fact that Nick Saban is among the greatest college football coaches of all-time, if he doesn’t sit alone atop the list already. Whether with the Alabama Crimson Tide or the LSU Tigers, his dominance at the top of the sport over the past two decades has been nothing short of remarkable.

With Alabama capturing the National Championship this year over Ohio State, Saban put himself in a class of his own in terms of career titles. He surpassed Paul “Bear” Bryant for the most National Championships won by a head coach with the seventh of his career. In fact, winning his sixth title with the Crimson Tide — the other won at LSU — tied Bryant just in the last 13 years.

Perhaps the most remarkable part of what Saban has done with the program since arriving in 2007 is adapt to succeed as college football has evolved. He’s won with an elite rushing attack, an elite defense, a combination of those things and, most recently, with an unstoppable passing offense.

That alone is a testament to the greatness of the Alabama head coach. He’s not simply been the product of one great recruiting class or a singular era — he’s withstood all of that to continue reaching the mountaintop of the sport.
