Brooklyn’s had an up-and-down start to the Big 3 era, with some flashes of brilliance combined with disappointing lows, including two losses to Cleveland last week. As great as the James Harden trade was for the Nets, it also exposes their lack of depth. Until reinforcements are on the way — whether it’s Andre Drummond or another waiver claim — Brooklyn is bound to be a little shorthanded.

What does that mean? Well, the likes of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Harden are currently logging some of the highest minute totals in the league. Irving and Harden are used to that predicament, but KD is coming off serious knee surgery, and thus ought to be resting more in some early regular season games. That hasn’t been the case.

The Hawks, meanwhile, are one of many young upstart teams in the Eastern Conference hoping to make the jump to postseason contender this season. In Trae Young’s third year, Atlanta has surrounded him with capable talent in Clint Capela, De’Andre Hunter, John Collins, Kevin Huerter and even a solid backup in Rajon Rondo. They’re a little banged up at the moment, but anything other than a playoff appearance would be a disappointment in the ATL this year.
