Tag Team action was front and center on WWE NXT

Both the men’s and women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classics are in full swing. The men are moving into the second round while the women continue to finish up the opening group. WWE NXT’s action continued around these important tag team matches, but also the pairing of Finn Balor and Kyle O’Reilly who were looking to get some sort of revenge on Pete Dunne and his crew.

The night started off with said tag team action as MSK stepped into the ring for the second time, this match was against Killian Dain and Drake Maverick.

Maverick and Lee started things out with a slow-paced grappling affair, in which Lee found the early advantage. Maverick was at a disadvantage for awhile until Dain received the tag, throwing everyone around, even using his partner as a weapon. MSK had to break out the tag team maneuvers to get Dain down to his knees, but that fired the big man up.

Dain’s presence turned the match around for his team, isolating Lee and overpowering him for the second half of the match. Lee took a lot of offense before he was able to find a way to get to his partner, making the much-needed tag. MSK were almost able to pull off the win with the assisted standing moonsault but it was the blockbuster that put away Maverick for the win.

Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez Advance

Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez were out next to take on Jessi Kamea and Aliyah. Aliyah was at an early disadvantage but Kamea attempted to match power with Gonzalez only to fail. Aliyah was rolling against Kai, but it was Gonzalez saving Kai who landed a nasty pump kick to end all of that. Kai and Gonzalez continued to tag in and out, dominating their opponents with ease. Kamea tried to make the hot tag but found herself getting flattened with the one-arm powerbomb for the win.

Tyler Rust was out next in singles action against an “enhancement talent.” Rust was in control for all this match, just as he should be in a showcase contest. The match did not go as smoothly as planned, however, as Rios had some offense of his own. Rust was angered and embarrassed, locking in a double shoulder lock to force the submission and get the victory.

Quarterfinal action continued with Grizzled Young Veterans against Kushida and Leon Ruff.

Kushida and Zack Gibson started things off, trading hold-for-hold. The GYV made it a point to employ quick tags to isolate Kushida, putting him through some pain until Ruff made the quick tag and the save. Kushida and Ruff were then able to turn things around on James Drake, keeping him on their side of the ring.

Drake did not stay down for long, turning the tides on Ruff and putting the hurt on the former NXT North American champion. As with so many other matches in the past, Ruff found a way to hit a big counter to get enough space to make the tag. When Kushida got in he went on a rampage against GYV, but even still he found himself getting overwhelmed by the duo.

Ruff tagged in and looked like he found the momentum to take his team over the top but that would not be the case. Ruff would eat the Ticket to Mayhem and get pinned to see GYV advance.

The Bronson Reed Push Continues

Bronson Reed and Isiah Scott had troubles boiling between the two and they went at it in a singles match. Scott tried to out quick Reed early but that did not stop the bigger man from throwing him around the ring. Scott found a way to ground Reed after slamming him face first into the steel post.

Reed took back over the match, swatting Scott away with ease. However, he could not continue using power moves because of the damage done to his arm. Scott landed a 450 splash but could not put Reed away. Instead, he angered the bigger man, leading to him hitting the Tsunami and getting the win.

The main event brought out Finn Balor to team with Kyle O’Reilly to take on Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch.

This match was as intense as expected. The NXT tag team champions targeted O’Reilly early, but he was able to get Balor back into the match, giving them the momentum once again. The tag champions were on the back foot, unable to deal with the onslaught from their opponents. However, they were able to ground Balor, isolating him on their side of the ring. Balor finally found a way to fight both men off and get to O’Reilly to make the hot tag. O’Reilly did not need much time once he got back in the ring, catching Burch off the top with a counter into a heel hook for the submission win.
