Bradley Beal is the first player in NBA history to lose 10 straight 40-point games

When Bradley Beal goes for 40, the Washington Wizards will find a way to lose that game.

Despite scoring a game-high 47 points, shooting guard Bradley Beal could not carry his Washington Wizards to victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Beal is a two-time Eastern Conference All-Star and has spent his entire NBA career in the nation’s capital since being drafted out of Florida in 2012. Even though he is one of the better shooting guards in the league, the Wizards cannot win a game for the life of them. They are a league-worst 3-11 on the year and they just lost their 10th straight game when Beal goes for 40 points. What?!

How much longer will Bradley Beal be playing in the nation’s capital?

Beal is under contract through the 2021-22 NBA season, with a player option for 2022-23. He will make $27.5 million this season, $34.5 million next year and potentially $37.26 million if he opts in for the 2022-23 NBA season. Simply put, Beal would command a great deal of trade value for the Wizards if the lowly Southeastern Division team decides to blow it up and put him on the block.

Though the Wizards are only 2.5 games out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, their 21.4 winning percentage is only being challenged by the Detroit Pistons (22.2) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (23.5) for the worst in the league. Washington is more likely to win the NBA Draft lottery than to make the Eastern Conference Playoffs at this point in time.

One would think 40-point games out of a player like Beal would win games, but here we are.
