Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera has officially won his battle over cancer.

Not only did head football coach Ron Rivera lead the Washington Football Team to the NFC Playoffs in his first year in the nation’s capital, but he did so while battling cancer. Well, guess what, guys? Rivera is officially cancer free!

Rivera’s daughter Courtney tweeted out the good news about her father on Thursday afternoon. He was battling squamous cell carcinoma during the entire 2020 NFL season and would occasionally take IVs during halftime of Washington football games. Despite posting a 7-9 record, Washington won the NFC East and is trending in the right direction under their incredible coach.

How good can the Washington Football Team be in 2021?

Despite having quarterback issues, Washington may be the favorite to repeat as NFC East champions anyway. They have a phenomenal defense and an emerging superstar in defensive end Chase Young. Washington also has a head coach who has won four division titles in his remarkable coaching career, dating back to his time as the longtime head coach of the Carolina Panthers.

If Washington does get better and more consistent play out of the quarterback position, they will win the NFC East again. From there, it really depends on playoff matchups and who their new star quarterback is. If they land someone like Matthew Stafford or Deshaun Watson in a trade, maybe the NFC Championship is not out of question? Regardless, the divisional round should be the goal.

Congratulations on being cancer free, Coach! We were all pulling for you the entire time.
