Matthew Stafford believes the Rams are a real landing spot for him
By John Buhler
Matthew Stafford could totally see himself playing for the Los Angeles Rams next season.
With Matthew Stafford having likely played his last snap for the Detroit Lions, the former No. 1 overall pick could replace another former top selection. Stafford thinks linking up with the Los Angeles Rams could be a very real possibility. Could Stafford really be Los Angeles bound?
Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, “Matthew Stafford considers the Rams a viable contender in his trade market with the Lions. While it’s unclear what the Rams can do with Jared Goff’s long-term deal on the books, they’ve explored the possibilities with Stafford.”
Even though the Rams got to a Super Bowl with Jared Goff as their quarterback, Stafford would be an upgrade if traded there.
How realistic are the Rams as a potential Matthew Stafford landing spot?
The big key we all have to realize is incoming Lions general manager Brad Holmes just came from the Rams organization. Goff would probably have to go the Lions’ way for the deal to work out, but you can never overestimate the familiarity of a previous working relationship. Stafford might be able to give Rams head coach Sean McVay what Goff never could by being able to go off-script.
One of Stafford’s best quarterbacking traits is his ability to make something out of nothing when a play breaks down. Yes, his golden right arm is his greatest attribute, but he has a reputation for playing his best ball when the game is on the line. He has an absurd amount of game-winning drives, despite playing for one of the most dysfunctional organizations in the entire NFL.
Stafford will be traded this offseason and the Rams are now potentially a landing spot for him.
