New Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is not close to naming a starting quarterback.

During new Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni’s introductory press conference, he was not about to tip his hand regarding the team’s quarterback situation. They have two players who started games in 2020: Former No. 2 overall pick Carson Wentz and last year’s second-round pick Jalen Hurts.

“We have two quarterbacks in Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts that are top notch,” said Sirianni. “A lot of teams don’t have any. I’m excited to work with both of them.”

He was not willing to commit to Wentz being with the team this upcoming season. Wentz is a potential trade piece, who could go to Sirianni’s former team in the Indianapolis Colts to be reunited with head coach Frank Reich.

This uncertainty did not help Sirianni leave a good first impression.

While we totally understand that Sirianni and his staff will have to do their due diligence in talent evaluation, his introductory press conference did not give off the best impression. He skipped over his words and did not seem remotely comfortable at the podium. While we understand his nervousness, the Philadelphia media will eat him alive if he is not more confident.

The only panacea in the NFL is winning. If Sirianni is the next Andy Reid or a close facsimile to his predecessor Doug Pederson, he will stick around in Philadelphia at least for a little while before he is run out of town like every head coach in their history. For now, he does not have to commit to a starting quarterback, no matter how much the Philadelphia or national media would want him to.

As long as Sirianni makes the right decision between Wentz and Hurts, he will be in good shape.
