Las Vegas Raiders: Realistic trade package to get Deshaun Watson
The Raiders would have to make a monumental offer to convince the Texans to trade Deshaun Watson to Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Raiders are a team that isn’t shy about making big moves. The team signed Jon Gruden to a decade-long deal and decided to make the move to Las Vegas.
The first year in Nevada resulted in a disappointing 8-8 finish. Gruden has yet to have a winning season and it is clear he is not all-in on Derek Carr as the quarterback moving forward. Considering a blockbuster trade for Deshaun Watson seems right up Gruden’s alley.
So what would a realistic offer for Watson look like?
Coming up with a massive haul for Watson
The Texans are reportedly making three first-round picks the starting point in discussions. But the Raiders are in the middle of the NFL, and adding Watson should only make those picks lower in value.
The Raiders will have to go above and beyond, so let’s throw in two second-rounders and two fourth-rounders as well. But that’s not all.
Carr would realistically have to go to the Texans in such a swap. He has two years remaining on his deal and would likely end up as a short-term option as the Texans look to avoid a total collapse. J.J. Watt may also be leaving Houston, so the Raiders can sweeten the deal by including Maxx Crosby. The young defensive end has 17 sacks through his two NFL seasons and would be a nice addition after losing two franchise cornerstones.
The Raiders would face an uphill battle in negotiations because they aren’t sending top picks to Houston. However, sending this massive haul of picks and two players could lead the Texans to agree if no other team offers so much draft capital.
The Raiders are a bold franchise, and making a huge deal like this would not be out of the ordinary. Gruden wants to win and getting Watson could finally help the team rise from its long run of mediocrity.
