The New England Patriots may have enough resources to trade for Deshaun Watson.

Though the Houston Texans tried to be a close facsimile to the New England Patriots under the Bill O’Brien regime, that blew up in everyone’s face. Now, the franchise is in a full-blown rebuild and its superstar quarterback Deshaun Watson wants out of town.

Trading away the best quarterback in franchise history to the AFC’s former dynasty looking for a fourth life, you would have to be crazy to do such a thing if you were the Texans. Then again, this is the same Patriots organization that Nick Caserio and Jack Easterby came from. Despite a lack of great on-field talent presently, the Patriots may have what it takes to pull off this massive trade.

What would the New England Patriots have to give up to get Deshaun Watson?

While there is not a marquee active player that would be coming the Texans’ way, an appropriate return for them for Watson would include three first-round picks, two second-round picks and two fourth-round picks. This would make things incredibly easier for Patriots head coach/de facto general manager Bill Belichick, who has revealed a possible shortcoming as a bad drafter of late.

So what would this mean for the Patriots? It would give them a quarterback who can compete with Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills for the best signal-caller in the division. With regards to Houston, we are talking about seven additional bites at the apple. It would be up to Caserio, Easterby and head coach David Culley to make the most of those magnificent seven selections.

Trading Watson to the Patriots would be painful, but it is the price to pay for premium draft capital.
