Clemson football is QBU and Dabo Swinney’s Tigers are closing in on adding the next great quarterback to the program.

From Tajh Boyd to Deshaun Watson to Trevor Lawrence to D.J. Uiagalalei, Clemson has become a place where top quarterback recruits want to play. That pipeline is expected to continue with the next wave of talent flocking to the perennial championship contenders.

With National Signing Day coming this week to put a bow on the end of the 2021 class, that also signifies the unofficial start to the all-out blitz for the 2022 class. One of the top targets for Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football staff is adding the next blue-chip quarterback to the roster. And the quarterback they covet is four-star Ty Simpson from Martin, Tennessee.

Ranked as the No. 2 dual-threat prospect and No. 42 overall recruit, Simpson is just outside the five-star range but could play his way into that elite territory over the course of the next year.

Ty Simpson can be the next great quarterback for Clemson

Simpson is scheduled to announce his commitment on Feb. 19 and Clemson is the team to beat.

His finalists include Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Texas A&M.

Considering the program’s track record of developing NFL signal-callers on top of competing for and winning national championships, Simpson committing to Clemson wouldn’t be a surprise. In fact, it may be a certainty.

“Clemson is a great place,” Simpson told Clemson 247. “The coaching staff they have a great relationship with my mom and dad and have a great relationship with me. If I went there I could excel there on the field and off the field and that’s what I want in a program.”
