Red Sox: David Ortiz drops incredible quote on Dustin Pedroia’s retirement
By John Buhler
David Ortiz gives us a great quote about his former Boston Red Sox teammate Dustin Pedroia.
For years, David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia were franchise cornerstones for the Boston Red Sox.
After 14 big league seasons, Pedroia decided to hang up the spikes on Monday. He won two World Series as Ortiz’s teammate in 2007 and 2013. While Pedroia doubted he even knew his name, Ortiz delivered an incredible quote about him. “He showed the whole planet it wasn’t about height, it was about balls,” said Ortiz. “If I had to pick one player to pay to watch it was Dustin Pedroia.”
Boston does not win either World Series without Dustin Pedroia
Pedroia was a four-time All-Star, a four-time Gold Glove winner and a two-time World Series champion with the Red Sox. He was named AL Rookie of the Year in 2007 and won AL MVP the following season. From 2007 to 2013, Pedroia was arguably the best second basemen in all of baseball. However, injuries took a toll on him in his early 30s and they ruined his MLB career.
Had Pedroia stayed healthy, he would have easily surpassed the 2,000-hit threshold. With another Gold Glove or two and a couple more All-Star nods, Pedroia would be well on his way to Cooperstown. However, he unfortunately comes up short of making it into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. But in Big Papi’s eyes, it was never about height; it was about balls. What a quote!
Nobody beat the hell of the Green Monster with a fly ball better than Pedroia during his prime.
