Imagine the Cincinnati Bengals having a pair of LSU football legends in Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase on the same team.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow would certainly welcome fellow former LSU football star Ja’Marr Chase on his team.

Together, Burrow, Chase and the rest of the 2019 LSU Tigers went 15-0 en route to a perfect national championship season. It was a magical year for the Bayou Bengals, and one they may never be able to recreate. Burrow suffered a season-ending knee injury in his first season in Cincinnati. Chase opted out of the 2020 season. LSU failed to achieve a winning record last fall.

When asked if he would enjoy playing with Chase again, this time at the professional level, Burrow offered this. “I’d love to play with Ja’Marr [Chase],” said Burrow. “He’s a great player—we’re still in contact all the time, we talk every now and then. He’s a great dude and a great player. I’d love to have him on the team.”

Is Ja’Marr Chase worth drafting over a star book-end offensive tackle?

Cincinnati has the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Obviously, the Bengals are not in the market for a franchise quarterback because they believe they have one in Burrow. While reuniting the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner with the 2019 Biletnikoff recipient would be stellar, Cincinnati has more pressing issues along the offensive line. Better protection is the only logical choice here.

If Cincinnati was smart, the Bengals’ front office would draft Oregon Ducks offensive tackle Penei Sewell to be the franchise’s next Anthony Muñoz. Should he be off the board before No. 5, the Bengals should pursue Northwestern Wildcats offensive tackle Rashawn Slater. If they can move back a few spots with a quarterback-desperate and still get Slater, they must consider that option.

Though Burrow may want to play with Chase, he needs better protection along the offensive line.
