These are the 10 worst quarterbacks to ever hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Almost any kid who grows up playing quarterback dreams of being the man to hoist the Lombardi Trophy and claim a Super Bowl title. Plenty of legends, such as Tom Brady and Joe Montana, have made their mark on NFL history by winning rings as part of their Hall of Fame legacy.

Being a legend isn’t a requirement to win it all, however, as plenty of average quarterbacks have won championships with great performances in the Super Bowl. The 10 passers on this list have nothing to be ashamed of as they had awesome pro careers that ended in glory but there has to be a floor for championship quarterbacks in terms of legacy. Let’s look at the 10 “worst” quarterbacks to win the big game, beginning with Phil Simms.

10. Worst quarterbacks to win the Super Bowl – Phil Simms

When the 10th worst passer to win it all is a first round pick in the 1979 NFL Draft in the argument for the best quarterback in the history of the New York Giants it shows how rarified the air is in this club. Simms captured his ring by taking home MVP honors in Super Bowl XXI, completing 22 of 25 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns to beat the Denver Broncos.

That moment made Simms a New York legend but his overall career was nothing to write home about with just two Pro Bowl appearances and one All-Pro team. Simms does have a second ring but he didn’t start in the Giants’ victory in Super Bowl XXV after breaking his foot late in the regular season, a caveat that lands him at the bottom of this list.
