Akbar Gbajabiamila prepares us for a Tom Brady Super Bowl 55 walk-off
By John Buhler
With Super Bowl No. 7, Akbar Gbajabiamila anticipates Tom Brady to walk-off unexpectedly.
John Elway and Peyton Manning did it before him, so Akbar Gbajabiamila believes Tom Brady will follow their same path. The former NFL defensive end and American Ninja Warrior co-host believes Brady will shock everyone and walk-off as a Super Bowl champion.
Elway walked off as a two-time defending Super Bowl champion with the Denver Broncos in 1998. Manning did it as a two-time Super Bowl champion with Denver nearly two decades later in 2015. With Brady having one six rings with the New England Patriots, the NFL Network analyst sees no other way Brady could retire. He has to do it in walk-off fashion on the biggest of stages.
Tom Brady would have nothing left to prove after winning a seventh Super Bowl
“You know what? I’ll tell you right now, I think he’s about to do one of the greatest walk-offs of all time,” said Gbajabiamila to FanSided‘s Mark Carman on behalf of Experian. “Now if he wins, this is it for Tom Brady. Tom Brady retires if he wins. I don’t think he’s going to let anyone know, right? I think it kind of cheapens it to announce to everyone that this is it.”
“And I don’t think he wants the big celebration, going around and doing his last city tour. I don’t think Tom Brady wants that. I think he wants to shock the world when he goes, ‘this is it’. So I do believe he will play another year because I believe the Kansas City Chiefs will win.”
“However, if I’m wrong, I think it’s the last time we see Tom Brady. He goes like, ‘I did a dub in the league, right? Did 20 years. I won with multiple teams. I don’t have anything to prove! I’m gone, I’m out.’ And everybody in the world is going to be shocked when he doesn’t show up for training camp.”
Gbajabiamila expects Brady will win Super Bowl 56 in Los Angeles next year, as he is picking Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to repeat down in Tampa. However, this is a de facto home game for Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It would only be fitting if he won Super Bowl MVP in his 10th trip to the NFL’s marquee game, going out on top as a seven-time league champion.
It is not a matter of if Brady will walk-off as a Super Bowl champion, it is a matter of when.
