Bears on the verge of trade for Carson Wentz
According to a report, the Chicago Bears are close to a trade deal with the Eagles for quarterback Carson Wentz.
The Bears are on the verge of completing a trade for Carson Wentz.
That’s according to a report from Philadelphia radio and TV personality Natalie Egenolf, who says quarterback Nick Foles and Tarik Cohen could be packaged with a first-round draft pick to make it happen.
When it comes to trades, this one is a doozie.
If Egenolf is right, the Bears will have avoided sending two first-round selections to Philadelphia. The deal will cost them a former All-Pro running back coming off an ACL injury and a quarterback they weren’t all-in on anyways.
All things considered, that’s not a terrible price.
Wentz may not be worth the first-rounder, which would be No. 20 if it’s Chicago’s 2021 pick, especially if his bad reputation in the locker room is accurate. However, he’s a known quantity and a likely improvement on current QB Mitchell Trubisky.
The most intriguing element is what the Eagles get. Back in 2019. they let Foles walk while betting on Wentz. Now Wentz is heading out and Foles is coming back in. As a Super Bowl winner for the franchise, he would command instant respect even though he’s gone 2-9 in starts since leaving the City of Brotherly Love. Alternatively, he could serve as a mentor to Jalen Hurts.
As for Cohen, his injury is a real question mark. However, if he can return healthy, he could add a valuable element to the Eagles’ backfield as a pass-catching threat. He received a Pro Bowl nod in 2018 with 725 yards and five receiving touchdowns.
Cohen and leading rusher Miles Sanders will give new head coach Nick Sirianni some nice options to work with, at least.
