President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden led us in a moment of silence ahead of Super Bowl 55.
Shortly before kickoff of Super Bowl 55 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden led the United States in a moment of silence for those who lost their lives to COVID-19.
It was a prerecorded segment, but it was shown on the Raymond James Stadium Jumbotron in Tampa, Florida, as well as being telecasted domestically on CBS. Biden has only been in office for a few weeks, but he has inherited a country more divided than ever, facing a pandemic none of us have ever dealt with in our lives. Their message was a powerful moment ahead of the Super Bowl.
Maybe Super Bowl 56 in Los Angeles will have full-capacity crowds?
While there are fans in attendance at Super Bowl 55 in Tampa, including several medical professionals and first-responders, there are more cardboard cutouts than fans at America’s greatest sporting event. With vaccines being administered by the hundreds of thousands every day, the hope is the world will be relatively normal again midway through the calendar year.
While sports are such a trivial matter to begin with, they are massively important to our country’s culture. Sports is the greatest unifier the United States has. The love of competition and tribal rooting interest help us break down societal barriers better than probably anything. For that, we applaud everyone who helped give us an NFL season that will be completed on time tonight.
Thank you, President Biden and Dr. Biden for your message. It was greatly appreciated it!
