Patrick Mahomes hasn’t lost a football game this bad since 2016

It’s been a long time since the football world watch Patrick Mahomes get dismantled like he did in Super Bowl 55.
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were absolutely lambasted in Super Bowl 55, full stop.
Tom Brady, Bruce Arians, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense took Kansas City behind the woodshed and pulled out a 31-9 victory. Before this loss, Mahomes had never lost a game by more than eight points in the pros.
This loss is clearly the biggest of Mahomes‘ professional career. You have to go back to his college days at Texas Tech to find a time where he lost this bad, as he was once beaten 66-10 by Iowa State during his time in Lubbock.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were dominated for most of the game
Mahomes was kept out of the end zone, throwing two interceptions in a game that saw Todd Bowles and the defense feast on an injured offensive line. Mahomes’ inability to drop back coupled with a gameplan that featured screens over deep passing spelled doom for Kansas City.
Mahomes’ defense did little to help him, as they seemed content with allowing huge gains via penalties, leaving tight ends wide open over the middle, and struggling to stop Leonard Fournette. Mahomes normally makes up for defensive ineptitude, but Kansas City couldn’t do anything right.
While Mahomes had a few nice plays, they were negated by a Chiefs team that had no idea how to navigate Todd Bowles’ complex defense. On their back foot for most of the night, the Chiefs never got into any sort of groove on offense, and Mahomes paid the price by throwing two interceptions.
Mahomes and the Chiefs coasted to a Super Bowl last season, and rarely were they punched in the mouth quite like this. Chiefs fans better hope that he takes this loss to heart and comes out even more motivated for 2021.
