The Carson Wentz trade rumors went from the hot stove to the back burner.

Carson Wentz could be on the move in the coming days. All reports indicate that the Philadelphia Eagles are willing to trade Wentz this offseason for the right price.

What is the right price?

The Eagles are hoping to get a similar return to what the Detroit Lions got for Matthew Stafford. After 12 years in the Motor City, the Lions star was shipped to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round selection in April’s Draft.

Both the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears are rumored to be in on Wentz but both are unwilling to meet the high asking price thus far and a trade is no longer imminent.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Eagles are willing to wait for the right price to come their way. Nothing seems to be “imminent” meaning all those reports that Wentz would be gone hours after Tom Brady won his seventh Super Bowl are premature.

Will Wentz be moved after all?

In no way should the Eagles feel rushed to move off Wentz. Teams are going to be desperate for quarterbacks, but Howie Roseman spent the offseason building an offense for Wentz to be rehabilitated The team hired Frank Reich’s right-hand man, Nick Sirianni, who was the Colts’ offensive coordinator to be their head coach.

Sirianni has not publicly committed to Wentz as a starter, nor should he after a season where he was benched in favor of 2020 second-round pick, Jalen Hurts.

However, there still is an upside to Wentz behind a quality offensive line and with decent weapons. Wentz was sacked more than any other quarterback last year and that was in only 12 games. The Colts certainly have all the factors that would make it an enticing play to go with their stout offensive line and a better group of backs and receivers than the Eagles currently employ. However, the Eagles could be in a position to draft Heisman-winning receiver, DeVonta Smith with the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Eagles are hoping for a first-round pick and additional assets for the former No. 2 pick who flashed as an MVP candidate in 2017. The Bears may be the most willing to meet that asking price considering general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy face a win-or-be-fired season ahead.

If somehow they get the offer they’re looking for, expect this deal to be done. For now, it’s a waiting game with all involved.
