Tom Brady texted Tyrann Mathieu to apologize following the altercation
Tom Brady reached out to Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu to apologize for the actions on the field.
There were plenty can’t-miss and must-see moments down in Raymond James Stadium on Sunday evening for Super Bowl LV. One however might stick out a. tad more due to both player’s reputations.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu were seen getting into it with another during the second quarter of the game. Following the one-yard touchdown to Antonio Brown, it was clear Brady and Mathieu had more than a “good game” to say to one another with a 21-6 lead.
The Buccaneers would go on to win 31-9, sealing Brady’s seventh Super Bowl title in his 21-year career.
On Monday, things seem to be back to normal. According to ESPN’s Jenna Laine, Brady texted an apology to Chiefs safety, calling him the “ultimate competitor” on a job well done all season long.
Two competitors meet in the middle
Mathieu clearly was not happy after the game with Brady leaving with another Lombardi Trophy. He told reporters that it was surprising to see the 43-year-old quarterback act that way towards anyone.
“Listen, Tom Brady’s a great quarterback. I never really saw that side of Tom Brady, to be honest,” Mathieu said postgame. “But whatever. No comment. it’s over with. I’m done with it.”
There are also now questions on what was said during the middle of the altercation. According to a now-deleted tweet from Mathieu, the 28-year-old said that Brady called him something “he won’t repeat” on social media.
Mathieu also tweeted, “He’s clearly chasing me but I got flagged… lol,” but that later was deleted too.
Players are going at it in the biggest game of the year. It’s sixty minutes of action to decide who will be the crown jewel of the NFL for the impending season and who walks away as the first loser. Naturally, there’s going to be tension had between names involved.
In the end, both players know what went down and both players let it get out of hand. Here’s to seeing them embrace in the competitive nature of football and hoping they come back stronger in 2021 for a potential rematch.
