Tyrann Mathieu called out Tom Brady after Super Bowl 55 in deleted tweet
By Josh Hill
Tyrann Mathieu put Tom Brady on blast for what sparked a heated moment between them in Super Bowl 55.
If you come at the king you best not miss — or if you do, call him out on Twitter.
Super Bowl 55 was The Last Jedi of Super Bowls, where nothing happened like we expected it to and the subversion was strong. Rather than forcefully overthrowing Tom Brady’s throne, the Kansas City Chiefs were not only defeated in the Super Bowl but were absolutely dismantled.
There was a chance the game was going to be a defensive battle, but only one of the defenses got that memo. Todd Bowles called a masterful game for the Buccaneers, holding the electric Chiefs offense to 9-points and not allowing a single touchdown to Patrick Mahomes (despite his Herculean efforts).
It was clear early on that the game probably wasn’t going to go the Chiefs’ way. Late in the second quarter, Kansas City safety Tyrann Mathieu capped off a brutal drive by drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for jawing with Brady after a Tampa Bay touchdown.
For what it’s worth, Brady appeared to run up on Mathieu who simply gave the trash talk right back to the 43-year old quarterback. But the story doesn’t end there, as after the game Mathieu called Brady out for what he said to him before deleting the tweet.
What did Tom Brady say to Tyrann Mathieu to set him off?
Mathieu didn’t get into specifics, simply noting that whatever Brady said to him was so horrible that it couldn’t be repeated.
Not saying what he said is worse than actually saying it. Leaving it up to the internet to fill in the blank is the equivalent to how off-screen deaths in horror movies are always worse than the ones we see — our imagination is always worse than reality.
It’s a pretty serious accusation to level against another player. Either Brady did say something and needs to be called out for it, or Mathieu was simply caught up in the heat of competition and the sour grapes of defeat.
Whatever was said between the two, though, sounds like it’s going to stay that way.
