Chiefs have suspended coach Britt Reid following crash
By John Buhler
The Kansas City Chiefs have placed outside linebackers coach Britt Reid on administrative leave.
In the aftermath of outside linebackers coach Britt Reid’s three-car accident that seriously injured a five-year-old girl named Ariel Young, the Kansas City Chiefs have suspended the son of head coach Andy Reid.
The Chiefs released the following statement on Tuesday evening.
“We remain in the process of gathering information on the incident, and we will continue to assist local authorities as requested. Our focus remains on Ariel Young and her family. We have reached out to the family to offer our support and resources to them during this difficult time, and we will continue to pray for her recovery.”
Britt Reid did not coach in Super Bowl 55 because of this accident
In the days leading up to Super Bowl 55, Reid got into this high-profile car accident days before the Chiefs had to make the trip to Tampa, Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Reid admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages to the Kansas City Police Department. The Chiefs played easily their worst game of the year, falling to the Buccaneers 31-9 in the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Did not having Reid available to coach in this game hurt the Chiefs’ chances of winning? Probably not that much, as they had far bigger issues at hand. They were missing their two book-end tackles, so quarterback Patrick Mahomes was scrambling all night behind a wet paper bag of an offensive line. Unfortunately, Reid’s incident was a huge distraction heading into the Super Bowl.
Our prayers go out to Ariel Young and her family during this incredibly difficult situation.
