The LSU football team now has the third-best recruiting class in 2021 with the signing of four-star receiver Brian Thomas.

With Brian Thomas taking his four-star commitment to the LSU football program, it means the Bayou Bengals have the No. 3 overall class in the 2021 cycle, knocking Kirby Smart’s Georgia football team down a peg.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Thomas’ commitment to LSU over Texas A&M was enough to leap Georgia into the top three. LSU had originally finished with the fourth-best class through National Signing Day, but it gained roughly two points on the Dawgs in the standings, beating them out by a single point. Once again, a Georgia sports team blew a lead.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Thomas is the No. 88 player overall, No. 13 receiver and No. 4 recruit in Louisiana, according to 47 Sports. He’s also an elite basketball player who could help Will Wade’s program as a two-sport star. His commitment also means LSU was able to sign the top four recruits in the state.

Recruitment is what will bring LSU back under head coach Ed Orgeron

While LSU had an abysmal follow-up season in 2020 after winning the College Football Playoff, a lack of on-field success did not derail the Tigers from making a killing on the recruiting trails. This is a college football blue blood we are talking about, with so much talent in-state per capita that it is almost unfair for anybody else to realistically compete with LSU in Louisiana. This is important.

Though some people still have their doubts about Orgeron as an in-game tactician, the CEO-type head coach does a great job coaching up defensive line talent and more than holds his own in recruitment. For that reason, LSU is not that terribly far away from contending for an SEC crown under his watch. He does need a strong staff around him to support him, but he sure can recruit.

There are no losers besides Texas A&M; only that LSU won slightly more than Georgia in 2021.
