After a sensational start to the NBA season, LeBron James is ESPN’s early favorite to take home MVP honors this season.

Heading into the 2020-21 campaign, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic was considered the favorite to be named the NBA‘s MVP, holding the honor over LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo and many others.

Oh, how things have changed. As they stand now, James is the favorite to win the award, as he’s been nothing short of brilliant thus far this campaign. If you ask ESPN, it’s his MVP to lose as we get ready to hit the heart of the season.

LeBron James is the clear favorite to take home MVP honors right now

Should James end up being named MVP, it’d be the fifth time he’s reigned supreme over every player in the league. While James is 36 years old, he’s showing no signs of slowing down. If anything, he’s been channeling his inner Tom Brady and has only gotten better as he’s gotten older.

As of this writing, James is averaging 25.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game. Those numbers are just silly and are a major reason why the Lakers stand at 20-6. James also has the clutch gene that you can’t find anywhere else.

In the Los Angeles Lakers’ 114-113 overtime win against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night, James led the team with his 25 points and 7 assists. Whenever a big play is needed, who do you think the team is going to go to? James, of course.

After winning the NBA Finals over the summer, LeBron now has four rings to his name. He’s hoping to bring home No. 5 later this year and do so in back-to-back fashion. If he continues his great play and the Lakers keep on winning games, no one will be able to stop him from taking home the coveted MVP hardware.
