Matthew Stafford and his wife weren’t going to leave Detroit without saying goodbye to the city they’ve grown to love so much.

Next season is going to be incredibly strange for Detroit Lions fans, as they’ll now have to get used to Jared Goff as the team’s starting quarterback. With Matthew Stafford now with the Los Angeles Rams, countless folks out there are going to miss the former Georgia Bulldog running the offense.

Stafford and his family were beloved in Detroit, as they really made an impact in the community. Well, Stafford and his wife have decided to make one final impact, as they said goodbye to Detroit with an incredible gesture.

Matthew Stafford donating $1 million to build an education center in Detroit is amazing

In outstanding fashion, Stafford announced via his Instagram page that he and his wife have donated $1 million to help build a brand new education center in Detroit. That just goes to show you how much the city has meant to the entire family.

Stafford was selected No. 1 overall by the Lions in the 2009 NFL Draft, spending 12 seasons with the team. In that time, he threw for 45,109 yards and 282 touchdowns. His best season came in 2011, when he tossed for more than 5,000 yards and 41 scores.

Earlier this offseason, the Rams and Lions pulled off a blockbuster deal which sent Goff to Detroit and Stafford to LA. With the Rams featuring one of the top defenses in the league, it’s clear they’re all in with this team and think Stafford can help get them back to the Super Bowl.

Stafford is obviously fired up to be in this position, but there was no chance he was going to leave Detroit without thanking the city for everything it has done for him. This $1 million donation really is a heartwarming moment for everyone involved.
