Ron Jaworski reveals Eagles’ current best offer for Carson Wentz
The Eagles are reportedly holding out hope for a big haul in any Carson Wentz trade.
Philadelphia Eagles fans went from thinking Carson Wentz was the franchise quarterback to wondering how much the team could get for him in a trade.
Wentz is reportedly unhappy with the organization even after Doug Pederson was fired, and the focus has turned to trade offers. Teams like the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears have been linked to the quarterback, but the Eagles do have some time to consider offers. Wentz isn’t owed his 2021 roster bonus until March 19.
That time will allow the Eagles to take the best possible offer and not rush into anything. Eagles legend Ron Jaworski recently revealed the best offer received so far.
Philly holding out hope for a high pick
Jaworski explained how the Colts reportedly offered two second-round picks in exchange for Wentz. That is a sharp contrast from the Detroit Lions receiving two first-rounders for Matthew Stafford. However, that deal involved a massive Jared Goff contract heading to Detroit so they needed some extra compensation.
The Eagles may have a tough time finding any team willing to part with a first-round pick for Wentz because of his max contract. However, if a team like the Colts wants him bad enough, they may decide to overpay and avoid a situation where they don’t have a quarterback they like in 2021.
The Eagles don’t necessarily have to trade Wentz if they don’t receive an offer they like. But he is up in trade talks because it appears the relationship is shattered and keeping him may not be a great option if he won’t even be the starter over Jalen Hurts.
The Wentz situation is in the weird stage where his own team values him highly and other teams out there really want him, so clearly those teams value him highly as well. That sort of potential desperation is what the Eagles are hoping works in their favor.
Jaworski also mentioned he thinks the team is giving up on Wentz too soon. That may be out of their control at this point if he makes it clear he wants out.
