2021 NFL Draft: Houston Texans 7-round mock
The Texans can save a bundle by cutting ties with David Johnson and Duke Johnson. If they cut one, they’ll need a secondary runner should they not add one in free agency. Of the two, they need a downhill guy.
Hill would have been a star in any other offense, but the air-raid system Mike Leach runs has no use for a running back. The year prior, the former Bulldog led the SEC in rushing attempts under Joe Moorhead with 242 to go with 11 total touchdowns. He’ll piledrive his way forward for yards in Houston.
The new hit trend is having specialty players work in an offense that can do it all. Houston won’t be able to fix their protection overnight, meaning they need a dual-threat player who can run the jets sweeps and play receiver.
Felton became a name to watch for down in Mobile. Is he a receiver? Should he play running back? Why not both? Felton can run it on short third options and work well as a receiving threat in the slot. More weapons for a quarterback, more happy plays on offense.
At this point, the best cornerbacks and safeties will be off the board. Houston needs to decide if they’ll cut Benardrick McKinney to save money and use that to bring in a defensive back to fix the secondary.
Should the Texans keep McKinney, they’ll likely lose Dylan Cole. Houston needs a thumper as third option for the run defense. That’s where Johnson excelled the past two seasons with the Aggies defense. A special teamer and leader, Houston could see if he’s the future next to Zach Cunningham.
