Tyler Shough has shockingly decided to transfer from the Oregon football team this offseason.

After three seasons in Eugene, starting quarterback Tyler Shough has opted to enter the transfer portal and leave the Oregon football program.

Shough was the starter for the Ducks last season, helping Oregon win a Pac-12 Championship in his first year in that role. The Chandler, Arizona native sent out a heartfelt message on Twitter Friday announcing his decision to explore his other options.

He graduated from the University of Oregon with two degrees in three years. Shough has three years of eligibility left.

Who replaces Tyler Shough as the Oregon Ducks’ starting quarterback?

Shough’s departure opens the door for four-star Ty Thompson to win the starting job. He’s the highest-graded quarterback to sign with Oregon and could be forced into a role right away.

He’ll compete with Anthony Brown, who took transferred from Boston College last year and played in the Fiesta Bowl loss to Iowa State when Shough was benched.

Even if Shough stayed at Oregon, there’s no guarantee he would have been the starter. Realizing that is what led h to arrive at the decision to transfer.

Ultimately, Shough will be eligible to play immediately at his new team as a grad transfer. Because of what he accomplished at Oregon and the skills he possesses, he’ll likely have options among high-profile schools.

Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Michigan and his home-state Arizona State were among the programs to offer Shough out of high school.
