The Chargers should strongly consider landing another former Alabama star with their second pick in this year’s draft. Dickerson struggled with injuries during his time with the Crimson Tide, but he possesses all the qualities to be a high-level starter at either center or guard in the NFL.
That versatility makes him an ideal fit in Los Angles. Both Pouncey and Trai Turner have a chance to leave in free agency this offseason. It might be difficult for the Chargers to find enough cap space to retain both starters. Drafting Dickerson would be a clever hedge against either of the pair leaving.
Dickerson isn’t the most athletic interior lineman in the world, but he’s a powerful technician at the line of scrimmage. He has a real knack for winning battles instantaneously against opposing defenders. That helps him create big holes for his running backs via both the a and b gaps.
The 6-foot-6 lineman also has the sort of edge NFL coaches like to see in young prospects. He’s not afraid to drive his opponent back until he hears a whistle. His injury history is concerning, but he’s got enough upside to justify being the No. 47 pick for the Chargers.
