Warriors welcome back Kevin Durant with incredible tribute video

The Golden State Warriors released their first tribute video to Kevin Durant in his return to the Bay Area.

Back on Feb. 5, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant left the team’s game against the Toronto Raptors after he was deemed a close contact to someone who had tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, he spent over a week in the NBA’s health and safety protocol. But on Saturday, he not only made his return to the Nets but also back to the Bay Area, home of his former team in the Golden State Warriors.

During the game, the Warriors released a tremendous tribute video to Durant on their official Twitter account. After showing various clips of Durant’s success with Golden State, the team ended it with a “welcome back” message.

This is the first of two tribute videos, with the second being held until fans are back in the building for KD’s next game in the Bay.

Durant’s first game back in Golden State since 2019

Durant joined the Warriors back in the summer of 2016 after spending nine seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder/Seattle SuperSonics. The move was heavily derided by NBA fans, who viewed Durant as jumping on the Golden State bandwagon. But it was Durant who got the last laugh.

Durant reached the NBA Finals in all three of his seasons with the Warriors, winning two Larry O’Brien trophies and two Finals MVP awards in his first two years. Durant did not get the chance to compete for championship No. 3, as he tore his Achilles tendon in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.

Following the 2018-19 season, Durant opted to join the Nets and point guard Kyrie Irving on a four-year, $164 million contract. The Warriors honored Durant by retiring his No. 35 forever.

Now, in his first full season with the Nets, Durant got his official welcome back from the team that happily signed him to go on a dynastic run.
