3 NFL Draft prospects the Chiefs should avoid

The Chiefs won’t make their first draft pick until the end of Round 1, but it’s still crucial for Kansas City to avoid these prospects. 

The sheer amount of talent present on the Chiefs’ roster gives them the luxury to make their first-round selection based on pure talent rather than positional need. That doesn’t mean it’s not important for Kansas City to find an impact in Round 1 of this year’s NFL Draft. The only way the Chiefs can keep their dominance going is to continually add cheap talent to their roster.

The challenge for GM Brett Veach and his staff will be to land a guy who can help the team right away with the final pick of Day One.

It’s particularly crucial for Kansas City to avoid making a big mistake with their first-round pick. That’s why the following three players should be crossed off the Chiefs’ shopping list.

3. Brevin Jordan, Tight End, Miami

No NFL head coach does a better job of using tight ends and H-backs than Andy Reid. The fact that Travis Kelce isn’t getting any younger could push the Chiefs into the market for a versatile tight end to groom behind him in this year’s draft.

Jordan is an intriguing prospect for teams due to his athleticism and ability to make plays after the catch. He averaged 15.2 yards per catch and found the end zone seven times for Miami in 2020. That type of production will earn him looks at the bottom of Round 1.

The Chiefs would still be reaching to take him. They can find much better value at tight end in the middle rounds. It would be a mistake for Kansas City to panic and overdraft Jordan on Day One.
