Ravens offseason rumors, Lamar Jackson

The Ravens need to add talent in free agency, but spending big money on any of these three players would be a costly mistake for Baltimore.

Baltimore’s front office correctly understands that now is the time to go all-in to win a Super Bowl title. Lamar Jackson is still a young quarterback, but he’s squarely in his prime. That means the Ravens need to be very active in free agency to build around the perennial MVP candidate.

Adding a top-flight wide receiver to help elevate the team’s aerial attack is clearly the franchise’s top need of the offseason. Hollywood Brown gives Baltimore one dangerous weapon on the outside, but they need a more consistent presence to provide Jackson with more support in the passing game. Fortunately, there are a number of high-end options available in this year’s free agent class.

On defense, there’s still work to be done to improve the team’s pass rush. Adding a young option on the edge would help future-proof John Harbaugh’s defense. The big key for Baltimore is to make sure they get solid value on every deal they make. Signing any of the following three players would prove to be an expensive mistake for the Ravens.

3. Will Fuller

Fuller looks to be the next Texans’ star destined to leave Houston this offseason. The Ravens need to make sure they aren’t seduced by his penchant for big plays. Instead, they should focus on the significant weaknesses in Fuller’s game.

His lack of availability is the biggest reason why Baltimore should pass on his services. He’s missed five games during each of the last two seasons. His struggles with injury aren’t a big surprise given Fuller’s lack of size on the outside.

Combine that with his history of drops and it’s easy to understand why the Ravens should look elsewhere. Giving him a multi-year contract with an annual average value in excess of $10 million per season would be a massive overpay.
