Anthony Davis re-aggravates Achilles’ injury in Lakers loss to Nuggets
By John Buhler
Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis re-aggravated his injured Achilles’ tendon in Sunday night’s loss at the Denver Nuggets.
After missing two straight games with tendonosis of his right Achilles’ tendon, Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis had to exit Sunday night’s game road loss at the hands of Denver Nuggets after re-aggravating it.
Davis had missed the Lakers’ two previous games because of the Achilles’ injury. He was unable to continue after bumping knees with Nuggets center Nikola Jokic. The Lakers would go on to fall to the Nuggets at Ball Arena on Sunday night, 122-105. Davis is listed as day-to-day with his injured right Achilles’. He will undergo an MRI on Monday to assess the condition of his lower leg injury.
How worried should the Lakers be about Davis’ injured Achilles’ tendon?
Let’s be real. Any time you hear of a player dealing with an Achilles’ injury in any sport, it is never a good thing. While there have been a ton of advances in modern medicine in the last few decades, a torn Achilles’ means a player’s season is done and over with.
If there is no tear (which seems likely given the Lakers’ initial prognosis), Davis will be sidelined for a bit in the hopes that rest and recovery will do wonders on the overworked sinew.
If Davis were to be able to go at some point in the coming days, he could be on a minutes restriction or not play back-to-backs.
As Laker Nation holds its collective breath hoping its star forward does not have a worse injury than initially feared, deep down you just know any injury related to an Achilles’ is never promising. If Davis does miss significant time, this will hurt the Lakers’ chances to repeat.
