Top 5 wide receiver prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft
4. Kadarius Toney
Teams looking for this year’s version of Justin Jefferson need to take a long look at Toney. Size may limit him to solely playing slot in the NFL, but he’s got the speed and wiggle to turn into a superstar at that position.
What separates Toney from some of his peers on the inside is that he can make catches down the field in a team’s vertical passing game. He’s not just a diminutive wideout who can turn screens and short outs into big plays by making guys miss. Toney is equally adept at running past opposing defenders and making long catches down the field.
That makes him much more like a Tyreek Hill or Stefon Diggs as the next level as opposed to a more typical slot guy. He may never turn out to be quite as impactful as those two superstars, but it’s not an impossible outcome for him either.
Toney needs to land with the right team to become a star, but plenty of wide receiver needy teams in Round 1 should be willing to draft him and give him plenty of touches as a rookie. Don’t be surprised if several franchises kick themselves for passing on him after he torches them during the 2021 regular season.
