Predicting the next 3 players to receive $300 million contracts
By Scott Rogust
With the San Diego Padres signing Fernando Tatis to a $340 million contract, here are the next three players likely to get a $300 million deal.
On the day that pitchers and catchers reported to Spring Training, the San Diego Padres decided to solidify themselves as the kings of the Hot Stove season. Sure, they did so by acquiring the likes of Blake Snell, Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove to add to their starting rotation. But they were not done yet.
FanSided’s own Robert Murray dropped the bombshell news that the Padres have signed star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. to a 14-year, $340 million contract. Only the best of the best in MLB are rewarded with such a massive sum of total money. Last summer, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed a 12-year, $365 million contract extension with outfielder Mookie Betts. Prior to that, the New York Yankees signed former Houston Astros ace Gerrit Cole to a nine-year, $324 million deal.
So that begs the question — who will be the next players to receive the $300 million contract? Here are the three players that make the most sense.
