Alabama football: Crimson Tide lose former 5-star recruit to transfer portal
Alabama football signs more five-star recruits than any other college football program, but they lost one to the transfer portal today.
Former five-star signee Ale Kaho has entered the transfer portal. The Alabama linebacker was the nation’s No. 21 overall recruit and No. 1 inside linebacker in his class, according to 247Sports.
The Reno, Nevada native played sparingly for the Crimson Tide, recording 33 tackles but was a big presence on special teams where he blocked three punts and returned a blocked kick for a touchdown during his time with Alabama.
News of Kaho entering the transfer portal was first reported by Matt Zenitz. Where he could continue his college career remains to be seen, but the one-time Washington enrolee could look to play a program closer to his home.

“First off, I’d like to begin with thanking God for putting me in a position to play football at the highest level of collegiate football and allowing me to play for the best coach in college football history,” Kaho said on his Instagram. “The University of Alabama, Coach Saban, and the football support staff have done so much for me during my time in Tuscaloosa, and for that, I am forever grateful. The late three years have been extremely valuable in my growth, not only as a player but more importantly as a man.
“I thank you Coach Saban for taking the chance on me and always pushing me to be better on and off the field. His tireless efforts helped mold me into a better person and have helped me become the man I am today. I also want to thank Jeff Allen and his staff for always keeping me healthy and working with me even during the toughest of times. Thank you for always being someone I could come to.
“During my time at Alabama, I have played alongside the best teammates and cultivated lifelong friendships that will continue to be a part of my life and push me to be the best version of myself day in and day out. After much thought and consideration, I have decided to place my name in the transfer portal. I feel that this is what is best for me and the goals and aspirations that I would like to accomplish playing football.”
