Former West Virginia cornerback Dreshun Miller announces he will transfer to Auburn

Dreshun Miller, the highly-rated cornerback who featured for the West Virginia Mountaineers in 2020, announced his intent to transfer to Auburn on Tuesday, via his Instagram.

Not only was Miller one of the top corners in the Big 12 last season, but the highly touted defensive star was also one of the best players in the transfer portal.

In Miller’s lone season with the Mountaineers in 2020, the defensive back registered 31 tackles (22 solo tackles), picked off one pass, and batted down nine passes in nine games.

Prior to his tenure at West Virginia, the Kennesaw, Ga. native spent his first two years at Eastern Arizona. In his final season with the JUCO school, the Sprayberry High alum recorded 44 tackles, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble, leading his team to the 2018 Junior College National Championship game.

Miller now becomes the second Auburn transfer to join the 2021 class, alongside former Northwestern defensive end Andrew Leota. Both transfers are expected to compete for a starting role ahead of the 2021 season.

The 6-foot-1, 192-pound corner brings another long and lanky outside defender and experience as a graduate transfer to an already uber-talented cornerbacks unit for first-year defensive coordinator Derek Mason and cornerbacks coach Zac Etheridge.

Miller’s immediate eligibility will be crucial in improving Auburn’s 79th passing defense from a season ago. The Tigers gave up 242.6 yards per game and allowed 7.3 yards per passing attempt. Miller will join a cornerback group that returns its top four contributors from 2020, including Roger McCreary and Nehemiah Pritchett.

New Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin has hinted that he is still in pursuit of adding more players to his 2021 class, having one more available scholarship remaining before reaching the NCAA limit of 85 per squad.

Auburn is scheduled to commence spring practice on March 16.
