3 free agents the WFT should avoid in the 2021 offseason
Some will say that quarterback is the biggest need for Washington this offseason. They made the postseason with four different options, including Comeback Player of the Year Alex Smith. Should Rivera trust two different starters, they’ll be fine under center in the winnable NFC East.
The real storyline to follow will be at wide receiver. Terry McLaurin is emerging as a top-20 target following his first 1,000-yard season. The only problem with him and the rest of Washington is that he outgained every other receiver by nearly 700 yards.
McLaurin is a true No. 1 receiver, meaning Washington should look for a secondary option. Golladay certainly has put himself in the conversation for top dollar after two 1,000-yard seasons in Detroit. Last season, Washington made an offer to Amari Cooper to become their No. 1 receiver and pair with McLaurin for the future.
The difference now is that McLaurin can play the No. 1 role. So could Golladay, and he’ll want the salary for it as well. A name like Will Fuller or Corey Davis could be worth No. 2 money for Rivera’s offense and bode nicely with the third-year target.
Golladay will cost too much and Washington should focus that attention elsewhere next month.
