2021 NFL Mock Draft: Kyle Pitts lands in the top-5 of the first round
By Brad Weiss
We’re in the thick of NFL Draft SZN, and we’re starting to get a better idea of what the first round is going to look like.
The 2021 NFL Draft is a little over two months away, so teams are starting to ramp up on interviews, and Pro Days are starting all over the place. The Jacksonville Jaguars hold the No. 1 overall pick, and will likely stay there, as a true QB1 is available this draft cycle.
With the first overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to stay put and draft Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. While some have said there are rumblings that Zach Wilson is better, that just is not the case, as Lawrence is seen as a quarterback that comes around once in a long while.
The Jaguars have a brand new head coach in Urban Meyer, and he is going to be expected to get this franchise back on track. In Lawrence, he gets his franchise quarterback as he takes over in Jacksonville and the hope that this duo can help turn this franchise around sooner than later.
The New York Jets have stated that they are going to do all of their homework before committing to a possible trade for Sam Darnold, so that is something to keep an eye on. With a new head coach in place, the Jets turn the page on Darnold in this mock draft, adding BYU signal-caller Zach Wilson at pick No. 2 overall.
Of course, there are several different ways the Jets could go during the 2021 NFL Draft, but Wilson is starting to get major draft buzz, and the hype is warranted. If the Jets do go with Wilson, the next move is getting him some weapons, as that has been a hindrance for Darnold’s development since being picked No. 3 overall a few years back.
In our only trade of this first round, the Houston Texans move into the No. 3 overall selection, making a trade with the Miami Dolphins for a pick that was originally theirs. For the Dolphins No. 3 and No. 18 pick, the Texans part ways with star quarterback Deshaun Watson, who has made it clear that he is no longer going to play for the franchise.
With this pick, the Texans get a new franchise quarterback, bringing in the talented Justin Fields out of Ohio State University. This is a kid who is going to be a dynamic playmaker at the next level, but replacing Watson could prove to be next to impossible considering how talented a player he is right now.
