Colin Cowherd hating Baker Mayfield is not a new concept. It just gets tougher to defend.

Cowherd has been against Mayfield from Day 1 in the NFL, going as far as to call him overrated and a bad influence on a Cleveland Browns franchise full of bad influences. Yet, everything Mayfield has proven is arguably the exact opposite. Baker led the Browns to the playoffs for the first time in over a decade, and provided hope for a city in dire need of some football aspirations.

What’s not to love about Mayfield’s first three years in the NFL? Plenty, apparently.

In a segment on his radio show ‘The Herd’, Cowherd mulled over a list of quarterbacks he’d rather have lead his team than Mayfield.

Colin Cowherd won’t bend on the Baker Mayfield argument

Some of Cowherd’s picks are obvious. As talented as Mayfield may be, he hasn’t proven himself to the level of, say, a Tom Brady. Others require more serious thought, but make sense in Cowherd’s twisted argument, such as a Derek Carr type. Cowherd’s opinion spins out of control by the time he gets to Carson Wentz, who easily ranked as one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL last season by most metrics.

Is Cowherd serious about his opinion? That much only he knows. Cowherd definitely understands that talking about Mayfield in a derogatory fashion only increases his reach, and by default his radio show’s viewership. It’s the way of the modern day sports media talking head, and a horse Cowherd has ridden this far.

Baker playfully chirps back every now and then, but this segment is not something he should worry about in what’s shaping up to be another important offseason in Cleveland.
