2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints 7-round mock

The New Orleans Saints were so close to being Super Bowl participants, but for years there was one thing or another holding them back. Now, it looks like they are preparing for a new era.
Drew Brees is expected to retire after a mediocre season. The Saints are still in a salary cap hole like no other. They will need to draft players who can help them fill holes right now.
There aren’t a ton of holes on the roster at this time. The Saints are a well-oiled machine that was built to survive the Drew Brees retirement. They are stacked at most positions. The defense is one of the best in the NFC. There’s still Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara to drive the offense. Even if Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill take over the offense full time, the Saints should still be a playoff contender.
With the right moves, this team could be a Super Bowl contender once again. It would be bittersweet if the team was able to do it after Brees retired, but nobody in New Orleans would care if it means a second championship. It all starts with the draft. The Saints need cheap talent, and this is the place to get it.
This team only has three official picks in the NFL Draft, but they are expected to get multiple compensatory picks. It all starts with their first-round pick.

The Saints need to use the draft positions that matter to get talent that’s going to step on the field immediately. That’s not usually how the league views TCU, but the safeties currently on that roster are different. Trevon Moehrig and Ardarius Washington were the best safety duo in the country.
Moehrig is likely the best safety in this draft. Luckily for the Saints, it’s not a position of priority for other teams, so he will probably fall to 28.
Marcus Williams is likely going to leave in free agency. Malcolm Jenkins is still playing well, and just re-signed with the team last offseason. Pairing him with the young Moehrig for the next few seasons will solidify this secondary as one of the best in the league. Moehrig can play next to Jenkins until he eventually moves to the strong safety position when Jenkins eventually leaves.
This is a great pick for the Saints since he can jump right into a position of need, he should be available at their pick, and he’s going to eventually turn into a really good player at his position.
