Round 2

Scouting Report. CB. 64. player. 48. Pick Analysis. Oklahoma State. Rodarius Williams

The Buccaneers secondary stepped up towards the end of the season after having major holes to fill over the past two seasons under Arians. Things hit a fever pitch last season when they cut former 1st-round pick Vernon Hargreaves in the middle of the season. This season, Carlton Davis really stepped up as a top cornerback and Sean Murphy-Bunting is playing very well in the slot. The only thing the Bucs could use is maybe a second outside cornerback.

Rodarius Williams is a decent prospect, although not as good as his brother Greedy Williams who was drafted in the first round last season. This might look like a slight reach (most mocks have him going in the middle of the third round), but he fits the mold of what the Bucs need. He had really good numbers stopping pass catchers on the outside. It’s the Bucs going for need over best-player available.

That’s the luxury of coming into the draft with the roster the Bucs currently have. Arians can take a chance on a kid who might not have the ceiling of some cornerback prospects, but Williams floor might be the highest of all of them outside the first round. Williams should be a starter pretty early on in his career, and he can play a smart style to keep big plays in front of him.

He also had zero missed tackles. That’s something that a coach like Arians will love. Those responsible players who take it seriously on every snap are the players coaches fall in love with on the tape. Williams has an ability to make a play without being too flashy. That’s what the defending champs need on a team full of stars.
