4. QB Andy Dalton (Dallas Cowboys)

It bears repeating. Veteran signal-caller Matthew Stafford will be a member of the Los Angeles Rams in a few weeks as the team opted to deal five-year pro Jared Goff and several draft choices to Detroit to obtain the strong-armed quarterback.

Much is been made about Stafford’s career, his recent injury history and the fact that during his stay with the Lions the franchise never want to a playoff game. But a little dose of reality here as the franchise in the Motor City hasn’t prevailed in the postseason since 1991. And that’s an awfully long time before Stafford joined the team as the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, Sean McVay could use a veteran backup. Yes, John Wolford started the team’s regular-season finale vs. the Cardinals and the wild card win at Seattle. But Andy Dalton would make a lot of sense. The 10-year pro played in 11 games (9 starts) for the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 and managed to hit on 64.9 of his throws for 2,170 yards, 14 scores as opposed to nine turnovers. Like Stafford, he has also been the subject of criticism for a lack of postseason success (0-4 from 2011-14). But he could be a sound addition.
